ABS-CBN coverage of Manila hostage drama shortlisted in NYF 2011 Radio Awards

GLOBAL – NEW YORK, USA, MAY 2011 – The New York Festivals International Radio Program & Promotion Awards has announced the 2011 Radio Awards Finalists.  This year’s Grand Jury selected 183 entries from 26 countries as finalists. 
 
Leading in the preliminary judging round are Canadian Broadcasting Corporation with 19 finalists, RTE Ireland with 15 finalists and Australian Broadcasting Corporation with 10 finalists. Reliance Broadcast Network India is the Asian leader with eight finalists. The network was recognized as a finalist for their entry “Green Durga Pooja” in the recently added Green Promotion category. Their entries “Short Songs” and “Hindostaan” also received finalist status in the new PSA category.  
 
ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation is the Philippines’ lone entry in the shortlist, with a nod in the Best Breaking News Story for its “Manila Hostage Drama 2010” coverage. Other 2011 finalists from Asia include KBS (Korean Broadcasting System), South Korea, for “Korea, China, Japan – A Story of Three Nations” and “Odyssey of Mythology : Death of Medusa”, and Radio Mango India for “World Aids Day” and “Raghu”.
 
All Radio Finalists will go on to the second round of judging to determine Gold, Silver, and Bronze award winners. 
 
This year three outstanding entries were honored in the newly launched Heroes category: Middle East Broadcasting Networks, Inc. for its entry, “We are all Laila,” Radio Netherlands Worldwide, for its entry “A Mother’s Hope,” and Reliance Broadcast Network Limited for its entry “Big Mumbaikar.” This new category recognizes stories of ordinary people whose acts of heroism or advocacies have touched the lives of people and set an example for others to follow.  
 
Trophy winners will be honored at a gala awards ceremony to be held on Monday, June 20 at the Manhattan Penthouse in New York City.
