Y&R, Leo Burnett Beirut and FP7/BAH Manama among big winners at Dubai Lynx 2011

GLOBAL – APRIL 1, 2011 – The winners of Dubai Lynx were revealed on March 30 at Awards Gala attended by more than 1400 people, which took place at the Arena in the Madinat Jumierah.

McCann Erickson APAC Executive Chairman & Regional Executive Creative Director Prasoon Joshi was jury president in Film, Print, Outdoor, Radio, Print & Outdoor Craft  and Integrated.

He was also one of the speakers in the festival program that included talks by Eugene Cheong, regional ECD at Ogilvy Asia Pacific and top global heads.

Joshi joined 26 international jury members who judged the 2068 entries from 21 countries. Roughly half of the total entries came from United Arab Emirates, which also took over half the awards, followed by Bahrain, Egypt and Lebanon in the medal tally. A total of 179 winners were awarded: 7 Grands Prix, 22 Golds, 58 Silvers and 92 Bronze.

Leo Burnett Beirut, Lebanon’s “Keep Walking Lebanon” for client Diageo picked up two Grands Prix, in Integrated and Media.  Y&R Dubai bagged two Grands Prix: “Splitting Headache” for Paras Pharma in Design and “Evil Eye Charm” for Harvey Nichols Dubai in Print. The Film and Film Craft Grands Prix went to Egypt: Elephant Cairo’s “Burglar, Hustlers” for Harvest Foods in Film and Advantage Marketing & Advertising Cairo’s “Hospital, Office” for Arab Dairy in Film Craft.

The Promo & Activation Grand Prix was awarded to FP7/BAH Manama, Bahrain, Supersonic, Batelco. The agency was also named Media Agency of the Year. Y&R Dubai took Agency of the Year; Network of the Year was presented to Y&R.

His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and CEO of Emirates Airline & Group, was present to accept the award for Advertising Person of the Year. Coca-Cola Egypt were honored as Advertiser of the Year with Ahmed Nazmy, Head of Marketing and Strategy, Coca-Cola Egypt Franchise, Omar Mandour, General Manager, Coca-Cola Egypt Franchise, and Nabil Kouchouk, Colas Manager, Egypt Franchise, collecting the award.

Also announced were the winners of the Young Creatives Competition. Michael Chaftari, Marya Ghazzaoui and Lea Salibi from Leo Burnett Beirut were chosen as the Gold winners for their integrated campaign put together to fill the brief from BMW.

“This has been an outstanding Festival attended by over 1100 delegates with some fantastic work being awarded, a diversity of content and top speakers and unmissable networking events,” says Steve Lane, Festival Director. “It shows that the industry in the region is maturing and the creative bar has been set even higher for next year’s awards.”
