MANILA – Leave it to Jollibee to pull at your heartstrings right on time for Valentine’s Day. Revisiting last year’s viral #KwentongJollibee video titled ‘Crush,’ McCann Worldgroup Philippines delves further into the story of the couple in the 1980s.

Set once more three decades ago and dubbed ‘Kwentong Jollibee: Homecoming,’ the geeky guy with a crush on the cute girl are shown even as he faces the disappointment of her finding another guy as boyfriend. As Ric Segreto’s OPM classic “Loving You” plays, his practice of giving her a Yumburger with a Post-It note with a positive message seems to go for naught in the face of this new development.

Despite this, their friendship continues, albeit with some more distance than before. When they see each other at a Jollibee, the guy points out that there’s some ice cream sundae on the girl’s cheek. When she’s waiting to get picked up at school to go home, he accompanies her before the car arrives.

A turning point occurs when she’s preparing the school for a big party and assuming her boyfriend will help out. Instead, he bails and leaves her to finish her responsibilities, eventually tiring her out at the gym. When she wakes up, she’s surprised to find that most of the decorating has been finished. She eventually finds geeky guy trying to cover up his good deed to no avail. This helps her realize that it’s time to break up with her boyfriend. She returns a necklace her boyfriend gives her as they hug goodbye.

At a bench on campus, the geeky guy is shown sitting comfortably when the girl shows up with a Yumburger for him. On a Post-It note on the Yumburger are the words, “I’m here for you” as smiles are exchanged between them. The scene then transitions to the current state of the school as the couple, 30 years older yet still in love, are back on campus for their alumni homecoming.
