1. Insights on The judging

The entries that succeeded were original, creative and relevant to the brand. The ones that failed were quite often irrelevant. There were a lot of very long films. It seems agencies have been overly indulgent this year. An 8-minute film could have been better if it was done in 3. A lot of irrelevance, too.

2. What piece of work stood out and why?

There was a piece for Parkinson’s disease out of Oz. It was shockingly powerful. Simple, memorable. Relevant.

3. What do you like about Adfest?
 
It’s a good format and there didn’t seem to be any lobbying or politics. It feels honest.

Andy started his career way, way back before most people in this industry were born. He joined Ogilvy & Mather Direct in London in 1985. He stayed with Ogilvy for 19 years in various roles: Art Director, Head of Art, Copywriter, Executive Creative Director and Group Chairman. He made Ogilvy Singapore the most awarded agency in APAC for 4 years running.

In 2004, Andy joined Saatchi & Saatchi as Regional Creative Director for APAC. Within one year, he made them the most awarded Agency in APAC. Andy worked for Saatchi for 9 years before being lured away by SapientNitro, a tech company that specialises in Platform Builds, User Experience and Digital Marketing. Here, Andy learnt about the world of Enterprise Solutions, Technology Innovation and Agile Approaches in Project Management. With a keen desire to get back to brand story-telling, Andy joined Dentsu in June 2016. He has been there for a mere eight months. But is thoroughly enjoying working with talented, driven and passionate people.

Andy has won a whole load of metal in every major award show. He couldn’t tell you how many because he lost count a long time ago. “It’s like trying to count the number of beers you’ve drunk,” he once told a colleague.
