The Guardian to debut new online platform for web content

GLOBAL, MAY 27, 2013 – The Guardian will soon introduce its new website, theguardian.com, to streamline the content it offers browsers. Said web presence will serve as a core online destination for those browsing the Guardian.co.uk homepage, the m.guardian.co.uk mobile site, the guardiannews.com US homepage and the Australian digital magazine which will soon be launched.

Over the last five years, the number of people browsing Guardian content on a monthly basis has grown considerably, from 20 million to over 80 million, many of whom hail from international destinations. Tanya Cordrey, chief digital officer at Guardian News & Media, in her blog post “Going global on our digital journey”, said that every month, the company’s online content is accessed from almost every country worldwide, such that UK users are only a third of the total audience. The introduction of the new URL will thus mark a big step for The Guardian, as it marks its evolution to one of the world’s top global media and news brands.

The move to the new URL will take place later in 2013. Millions of URLs attached to The Guardian’s existing websites, as well as approximately 15 years of content residing in the company’s archives, will be transitioned to new servers.
