Adam Buxton to host BUG at D&AD Festival

LONDON – With less than one month remaining until the the first ever D&AD Festival, the impressive line-up of speakers and events continues to take shape. Film, photography (and beer) will have a strong showing at the Festival this year. Not only will there be the fantastic exhibition of entered work from the Professional and Next Awards, but you can also hear from prominent speakers in these fields and attend a special event hosted by Guinness.

New Speaker: Adam Buxton’s Best of BUG

 

D&AD are delighted to welcome Adam Buxton to the Festival this year. He is bringing the ever-popular BUG, a big-screen extravaganza of music video and online creativity, to the D&AD Festival 2016. BUG gives big screen exposure to the most breathtaking, innovative, and downright brilliant music videos from around the globe.

 

For this special edition of BUG at the D&AD Festival, Adam will serve up an assortment of some favorite videos from recent BUG shows, along with other treats hot from the hallowed Buxton laptop. Don’t miss it!

 

Emerging Directors Panel – Presented in partnership with DCM, co-hosted by BAFTA

 

A panel on the craft of directing, looking at how new talent and diverse voices are nurtured as they develop their craft. Join a conversation between two filmmakers working in different disciplines, about their visual and storytelling approaches.

 

The panel will be composed of:

  • Destiny Ekaragha, director

  • Helmi Charni, director

  • Mariayah Kaderbhai, Film Programme Manager at BAFTA and a moderator of this session

 

New Speaker: Tim Flach – Endangered, presented in partnership with Getty Images

 

Tim will reveal the stories behind his breathtaking images, alongside his forthcoming book Endangered where he uses animal portraiture combined with images of habitat to discuss the challenges of the natural world.

 

Over the past decade, Flach’s work has increasingly focused on animals, ranging widely across species but united by a distinctive style that is derived from his concerns with anthropomorphism and anthropocentrism. He has won the International Photography Award’s Professional Photographer of the Year for fine art, is an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society, and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from Norwich University of the Arts in 2013.

 

Guinness – The craft of Guinness advertising, design, and brewing

 

A panel discussion and exhibition that looks at some of the most notable adverts from this inimitable brand. There will also be a chance to look to the future of Guinness in an event that looks at the whole story from the design, advertising and client perspective. Linking all of these, the panel will focus on the quality, craft and skill that goes into creating a memorable campaign.

The D&AD Festival

 

This is the first time that D&AD have held an event of this kind, comprising a three-day festival with headline talks from Sir Paul Smith and Sir Martin Sorrell as well as talks and panels hosted by over 150 of the top global names in design and advertising. Especially curated for creative professionals, the Festival will take place at the Old Truman Brewery in London from April 20-22, 2016. A three-day pass will cost £185 (£92.50 Members/ £55 Students) and will enable an all-access pass to all main and fringe events.
