MANILA – January 2, 2013 – Manila Contemporary has announced that it will be ceasing operations in early March 2014, in light of their director’s retirement and the expiration of their lease at Whitespace.
"Manila Contemporary wishes to announce that with the imminent retirement of our director, Valentine Willie, as a commercial gallerist and in view of the fact that our lease at Whitespace will expire in February 2014, the gallery shall cease operations in early March 2014."
The gallery said that their last exhibition will feature Joseph Tecson, and will open on February 15. They will also be participating in Art Fair Philippines on February 20 to 23.
"We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who have supported us during our brief five years as a gallery in Manila, including but not limited to, our staff, the artists, curators and collectors. We take leave happy in the knowledge that the contemporary Filipino art market is undergoing an unprecedented boom and that our gallery has contributed in a small way to the vibrancy of the art scene here in Philippines," the gallery said.
"The team and partners of Manila Contemporary will continue to collaborate with Valentine Willie Special Projects on independent offsite exhibitions and publications," they added.
