THE PHILIPPINES, FEBRUARY 27, 2012: “There is no such thing as bad publicity,” or so show business says. However, for Perception Inc.’s chairman and CEO Rene Nieva, bad publicity is always bad publicity for businesses, which rely and thrive on respectability, safety, and high quality of the products and services they offer and render.

Building, maintaining, and protecting the image and good reputation of businesses through a PR counseling company has been Nieva’s long-held dream. Perceptions Inc. became his early-retirement project, together with wife Genny, when he left his post as public affairs associate for Exxon Chemicals Asia Pacific. Nieva came back to Manila and put up Perceptions Inc. in January of 1987, and he has since gained a clientele that includes United Laboratories, Amway, Philip Morris, and Microsoft.
Nieva credits this growth to client satisfaction and enhance professional reputation through referrals and various local and international awards. He also cites passion and creativity, as well as careful planning and execution of projects.

This is why Perceptions Inc. upholds integrity and truthfulness. Nieva also underscored practicing ethical PR, and building and maintaining relationships within the industry and beyond. PR is a weapon of choice for the good, positive objectives, said Nieva. “Most, if not all, of the PR projects we have proposed and undertaken for our clients were aimed at contributing towards the betterment of social and economic conditions in our country,”  he added, saying that it is all about making a difference.

PR has changed over the years, what with the advent of the digital space and the burgeoning social media, but Nieva believes it still boils down to the basic principles of PR: doing good and telling it well. “Formulate the message and choose the right medium,” he advised.

Perceptions Inc.’s 25 years in the industry is powered by its values, its accolades, and its ability to adapt to changes. This year, with the return of two former clients, the young, dynamic team of Perceptions Inc. is determined to bring the agency to greater heights – and hopefully 25 more years and beyond of high-quality service.
