THE PHILIPPINES, MAY 4, 2012: U.S. cable news channel Cable News Network (CNN) pays the Philippines a visit on its special coverage report "Eye On" aired first week of May.
CNN’s Eye On is a week-long series that takes its viewers in various countries around the world, highlighting the interesting places, influence, innovation, and intelligent people who have the potential to change the world.
The series shows the different faces of the country, good or bad. From the teeming rain forests of Palawan, the disturbing child labor in the sugarcane industry, to the country’s social media-boosted tourism campaign, CNN’s "Eye" takes viewers to see the country on a holistic point of view.
The series also tapped on the growing problems of the country such as the growing population and its effort for birth control, the not so sweet life of sugar cane child workers, pirate attacks on the Philippine seas, and the junk food lifestyle in the slums.
Inspiring tales of Filipinos include children taking on ballet to dance their way out of poverty, young boxers hoping to be the next Manny Pacquiao, and migrant workers considered as the modern heroes of the country.
CNN also sets its spotlight on the booming call center industry, wherein the country was dubbed the "Call Center Capital of the World," overtaking India. CNN also took a trip down the first modern, purpose-built science museum in the devoutly Catholic country.
