GLOBAL – AUSTRALIA, JULY 13, 2012: The National Year of Reading teams up with The Sweet Shop’s Pete Circuitt to encourage Australian families to hit the books.
According to the National Year of Reading, 46% of Australians can’t read, follow a recipe, make sense of timetables, or understand the instruction on a medicine table.
To drive the public to start visiting libraries, Circuitt came up with a 60 second animated narrative short titled "Come Back Soon" depicting the modern library as a magical, multimedia place that serves humanity, not commerce – a place where parents and caregivers are supported to share stories with their kids. Actor and author William McInnes, patron of the National Year of Reading, voiced the film.
Originally created as a digital content piece for distribution through employer networks, the film will be screened in cinemas during the upcoming Australian school holidays, via a partnership between Public Libraries Australia and Val Morgan.
