MANILA – The Rockwell Club and Galerie Paloma will host a fundraising exhibition for the survivors of super typhoon Yolanda, by up and coming artist Geraldine Santiago. Fourteen new paintings of origami cranes and children at play have been produced to encourage hope for those affected by the storm and remind us of their continuing struggles.
Hope also specifically supports the work of two charities that Santiago has been working closely with: Right Start and Operation Blessing Foundation Philippines Inc., (OB) and their activities in Tacloban which assists in the various needs of communities affected by the storm.
This is Santiago’s first solo exhibition, which shares two unique series of paintings. Silhouettes of children against patterned backgrounds express every child’s right to live in a safe and healthy environment. Although playfully executed, they discuss the vulnerability of children and the need to protect them. However, her cranes are visually stark and meditative. Their silent forms symbolize the strength and fragility of the human spirit as well as the importance of faith to overcome devastating circumstances.
100% of the sales from this exhibition will be donated to Operation Blessing and Right Start.
The exhibit runs from June 25 to July 9 2014.
