MANILA – The 10th annual Philippine Komiks Convention or Komikon 2014 opened its doors to Philippine komiks fans of all shapes, sizes (and costumes!) last weekend at the Bayanihan Center, Unilab Compound in Pasig City.
The venue was transformed into a full-blown convention celebrating the best that local talent had to offer,with creator-owned boothsand exhibits from all manner of publishers, big and small. On sale were original art, graphic novels, self-published works,and collectible items.
Special guests were Filipino stars from the the international comic scene, such as renowned DC and Marvel artist Stephen Segovia, as well as numerous representatives of the local independent scene, including Melvin Calingo, creator of Pasig, and co creator of Kubori Kikiam and Kanto Inc.
Advertising practitioners with ties to the local komiks industry included Mythology Class’s Arnold Arre, Trese’s Budjette Tan, Mactan 1521’s Tepai Pascual, and Skyworld’s Ian Sta. Maria.
Also launched at the event was Komikon’s Second Independent Comic Compilation.
