MANILA, PHILIPPINES – In celebration of Women’s Month, a free webinar and a book launch titled, “Solo Flight: Sa Paglipad ng Haraya ng Babaeng Manunulat” will be held on March 19, 2022, at 2 pm, via the Facebook page of Balangay Productions.
Featured in the event is Balangay’s latest book, “Solo Flight, Mga Kuwento” by Rita dela Cruz. Dela Cruz was born in Virac, Catanduanes and grew up in Los Baños, Laguna. She graduated B.S. Development Communication (Journalism) at University of the Philippines Los Baños and M.A. Filipino (Malikhaing Pagsulat) at UP Diliman. She loves reading and photography. She often hangs out in coffeeshops just to observe and watch people. She works as a writer and editor in Diliman, Quezon City. “Solo Flight” is her first book.
Highlighting the book launch are messages from UP professors, writers, and critics, Dr. Maria Crisanta Nelmida Flores, Dr. Rosario Torres-Yu, and Dr. Eugene Evasco; and the author’s friends, Rena Hermoso, Mary Charlotte Fresco, and Mariko Ramos.
Providing their reviews and their favorite stories in the book are Dr. Mar Anthony Simon Dela Cruz of Santiago, Isabela; and Haidee Pineda of UP Diliman. Poet Rosmon Tuazon will read part of the book and offer a song. The highlight of the launch is the question and answer portion with the author, Rita Dela Cruz.
Another highlight of the event is the webinar featuring the topics: “Pagtuturo ng Panitikang Malay sa Kasarian” by Dr. Wennielyn Fajilan of the University of Sto. Tomas; and Ang Tauhang Babae sa Tatlong Nobelang Filipino” by Beverly W. Siy of the Cultural Center of the Philippines.
The program will be emceed by Lourdes Zorilla-Hinampas of the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino.
