KUALA LUMPUR, MALAYSIA – UPS has announced the appointment of Chika Imakita as its managing director for Singapore and Malaysia. A driven and experienced logistics professional with over 20 years of industry and supply chain management experience, Chika will spearhead UPS’s express delivery, logistics operations and strategic growth initiatives across both markets.
“I am excited by this opportunity to continue supporting the growth of our customers in Singapore and Malaysia, both of which are home to a huge number of small businesses looking for the tools and support they need to grow their business both regionally and globally,” said Imakita.
“While the last couple of years have presented challenges that continue to evolve, there’s also a tremendous amount of optimism and opportunity for business owners in both countries in areas such as cross-border e-commerce and intra-Asia trade. We’re looking forward to helping our customers realise and then capitalise on those opportunities.”
A keen environmentalist with a passion for driving sustainable change in the industry, in her new role Chika will also look to step up UPS’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) initiatives as the company moves towards an ambitious set of targets laid out in its 2020 sustainability report.
In Singapore, UPS has already introduced electric vehicles into its delivery fleet with the aim of having over 40% of the fleet electrified by 2026. The company is also exploring various alternative urban logistics solutions to complement cleaner modes of last-mile transportation and support the transition to zero-emission logistics.
Meanwhile, via its charitable arm The UPS Foundation, UPS continued its commitment to community building with donations totalling $85,000 in Malaysia and Singapore in 2021. The funds will be used to provide educational opportunities to young people in underserved communities and to support local mental health and welfare organisations.
Chika joined UPS as an intern at the company’s global headquarters in Atlanta in 1999 and has since accumulated a wealth of experience that spans international marketing, business planning, revenue management, pricing, product development, customer solutions, relationship management and communications in both Asia and the United States. Prior to her new role she served as marketing director for UPS in south Asia Pacific.
“Chika brings the ideal combination of leadership experience, creativity, and passion into her work, and she has a proven record of creating and managing high-performance teams that have delivered results and expanded UPS’s service offering across multiple diverse markets,” said Billie Tan, president of UPS in south Asia Pacific.
“She has significant experience developing and executing regional strategic growth plans, and I’m looking forward to her building on the great work we’ve done already and continuing to take these markets forward.”
