SINGAPORE — Subway, one of the world’s largest restaurant brands, recently received three awards – two competitive and one recognition – at the 2022 Franchising and Licensing Association (FLA) Singapore Awards Gala Dinner held on October 27:
- International Franchisor of the Year Award – Overall Winner
- Franchisor of the Year Award – Runner Up
- Established Franchisor Award – Platinum Category
The FLA Awards recognizes outstanding achievers in the local franchise industry and provides a platform for successful companies to be showcased internationally. Brands are measured against FLA’s robust and vigorous Franchising & Licensing Competency Framework.
“We are extremely thankful and humbled to receive the FLA awards, as we continue on our multi-year transformation journey and growth across the region” said Subway Asia Pacific President Eric Foo.
Growth in APAC
The awards are testament to the success of Subway’s ongoing multi-year transformation journey to improve across all aspects of the brand – from its menu and restaurant experience to its franchisee model and leadership.
As part of this journey, one of the top priorities is strategically expanding and strengthening the brand’s footprint worldwide by pursuing master franchise and development agreements with operators that have specific expertise in a region. Over the past 15 months, Subway has signed nine master franchise and country developer agreements across APAC, EMEA and LAC, which will account for more than 5,300 new restaurants over the next decade.
In the APAC region, the brand has experienced positive growth in the number of restaurants over the past two years and currently has over 3,300 restaurants across 15 markets. Subway has plans to double its restaurant count in APAC over the next five years, prioritizing markets in Indochina, including Vietnam.
FLA Awards & Recognitions
Subway received the “International Franchisor of the Year Award,” which identifies successful franchisors, both local and overseas, that have established a strong presence in at least three foreign markets. Subway was also awarded runner up for “Franchisor of the Year Award,” which recognizes a franchisor’s growth strategy, how it supports franchisees and tactics deployed to penetrate new markets.
Finally, Subway was recognised in the platinum category for “Established Franchisor Award,” which spotlighted brands with over 15 years of franchising experience and more than 200 operating outlets across the globe.
