MANILA – To capture images one sees through one’s mind’s eye has never been easier than it is today. What once required clunky equipment that was hard to set up can now be done on one’s mobile phone in a matter of seconds. Such has been the evolution of the camera and photography that almost anyone can now take quality pictures and post them online for people all over the world to see. The old axiom that “a picture is worth a thousand words” rings even truer now that the picture taking experience has become so much more personal.

As easy as it is to snap pictures and share them, how much cooler would it be to actually be recognized for your picture taking skills? The adobo Design Awards 2016 is inviting photography entries for its Open Category to professionals, freelancers, and students alike so that they may be recognized for those same skills. Bear Brand will present a special award for photography that is in line with their campaign promoting the strength of the Filipino or “tibay ng Pinoy.”

“Bear Brand has always celebrated the Filipino’s strength and unbreakable spirit,” says Jayel B. Ladioray, Vice President and Creative Services Head for Communication and Marketing Services of Nestlé Philippines, Inc. “For generations, Bear Brand has been providing Pinoys with ‘tibay-resistansya;’ nourishing Filipinos so that their strength of body can match their strength of will.”

Bear Brand is currently highlighting real stories of “tibay ng Pinoy” as seen in their most recent advertisements. “These are stories of Filipino families who, through their grit and determination, find ways to surpass and flourish in spite of obstacles. And these stories are what the brand is hoping can be captured through photography,” Ladioray adds.

The adobo Design Awards Asia aims to champion the best designs while recognizing the talents behind the work in this, its seventh year. Now with over 20 categories, design is an essential element for one’s entry to truly be seen as unique. The aDAA are looking for designs that are as bold as the world they are trying to change. Ideas that are not only different, but push the limits on creativity in order to achieve positive results. This year’s aDAA also marks an alliance with D&AD, a UK-based educational charity org that gives out the world’s most coveted design accolade. Its current President, Andy Sandoz, will be in Manila to head this year’s panel of judges.

The apps that Globe would like to honor must strive to address these kinds of issues and stay in line with the aDAA 2016 theme of “designing for a bold new world.”

Other special awards that will be handed out in the Open Category include T-Shirt Design presented by Bench, an award for Video presented by Brand New Media, an award for Digital Short Film presented by the Power Mac Center, and an award for Mobile App Design for Social Good presented by Globe.

Good photography may be harder to determine in a time when just about anyone can take a picture. Good composition, lighting, subject, and solid elements are still essential, but Bear Brand and the adobo Design Awards Asia 2016 are aiming to promote an inspirational kind of photography. Bringing together the elements of “tibay ng Pinoy” with “designing for a bold new world,” the challenge now awaits any amateur or professional photographers who think they have the pictures that can meet these qualifications. So bring out your SLRs or even your digital cameras or camera phones. Your photograph is just waiting to be discovered, displayed, and honored at the adobo Design Awards Asia!

The deadline for submission of entries is on March 12, 2016, with the Grand Awards Night on April 8, 2016. For more details and for entry forms, log on to http://www.adobodesignawards.com, email us at designawards@adobomagazine.com, or call (+632)845-0218.
