SINGAPORE — This June holidays, families can look forward to igniting their artistic journey and immersing themselves in a captivating world of contemporary art with Singapore Art Museum (SAM). Through a carefully curated selection of exhibitions and programs, families can explore various art forms, participate in hands-on experiences, and gain a deeper understanding of different artistic processes. These programs are part of SAM’s aim to spark the imagination of curious young minds and foster a sense of curiosity while encouraging children to develop a lifelong appreciation for art.
The third and last edition of Art in the Commons: Data Visualising Jurong returns with a new art installation by Singaporean Artist Kapilan Naidu, which looks to document and reimagine the experiences and memories of the many people who have lived, worked, and played in the Jurong neighborhood. Synthetic Visions for a Future Past (Jurong Dreaming) is an interactive artwork of an artificial mangrove swamp constructed from industrial materials and digital screens.
Drawing from crowd-sourced images and stories, the artist diffuses these memories across a network of islands and taps into artificial intelligence algorithms to create an ever-growing array of visions of the neighborhood. Audiences are encouraged to browse, sort, and contribute to the collection of memories, coming together playfully to contribute to the artwork’s visual imagination of a Jurong that is simultaneously fresh yet familiar to the neighborhood.
This presentation is part of Art in the Commons: Data Visualising Jurong, SAM’s collaboration with Science Centre Singapore that embarks on community-based participatory art programs to uncover community interests within the Jurong district.

The June edition of SAMily Funday promises an unforgettable experience that blends art, education, and entertainment for the whole family.
A special Children’s Season edition takes place alongside SAM’s ongoing exhibitions. From the vibrant cinematic installation of Hito Steryerl: Factory of the Sun to the sensorial experience of Lila: Unending Play by Jane Lee, where audiences are encouraged to reimagine painting playfully, and SAM Contemporaries: Residues & Remixes, which presents an educational lens into trends in art today, families and young audiences can look forward to delving deeper into the world of contemporary art showcased at SAM.
Featuring a selection of activities inspired by SAM’s new suite of exhibitions, visitors can sign up for workshops on creating comics, collect stickers inspired by artworks, and become an art detective by exploring how art and science collide when art conservators work on preserving precious works of art. Visitors to the museum can also look forward to a series of family-friendly exhibition tours and talks with our artists. The Everyday Museum, SAM’s public art initiative, has recently launched two new public art trails, Portraits of Tanjong Pagar: Encounters with Art in the Neighbourhood and Singapore Deviation: Wander with Art through the Rail Corridor. Featuring a series of free public art installations that invite new ways of experiencing everyday spaces, families can embark on a self-guided journey through the Tanjong Pagar neighborhood and the Rail Corridor to discover the art and learn new stories and perspectives about seemingly familiar places.
For this school holiday season, The Everyday Museum has partnered with local independent bookstore Natventure to bring a roving children’s pop-up bookstore to selected public artworks. Creating spaces for children to explore art through nature and books freely, families can look forward to enjoying a curated selection of books in line with the themes of the artworks, as well as special programs such as storytelling and play sessions.
