CAGAYAN, PHILIPPINES — With the aspiration to reach out to more audiences in the regions, the Cultural Center of the Philippines and the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO) set to take its brand of music to the province of Cagayan on July 14, at the Alcala Municipal Gymnasium and on July 16, at the Afusing Daga Elementary School Gymnasium. Both concerts start at 7:00 pm and are free to the public.
Dubbed “Samiweng ti Away,” which translates to “Music of the Countryside,” the concert is a commitment of the CCP and PPO to promote music appreciation through outreach concerts in different communities and regions nationwide.
Under the baton of Maestero Herminigildo Ranera, the PPO will be performing classical pieces as well as contemporary OPM and Broadway music, along with well-loved Ilocano songs. The Nightingales’ Bernadette Mamauag and Keiko Cressida Cayanga take the spotlight with their vocal prowess. Mayor Cristina Antonio, with the Alcala Voice Scholars, will join the stage to deliver a dazzling performance.
“It has been our mission at the Cultural Center of the Philippines to go out to the different regions and bring our brand of shows and programs to our kababayans. We want to provide unique artistic experiences that CCP can only give while promoting and preserving what is inherent to us as a nation. We always believe that music transcends boundaries and unites us as Filipino people,” said CCP President Margie Moran-Floirendo.
Through the PPO’s Samiweng Ti Away concert, both the CCP and PPO hope to bring comfort and warmth to the broadest audiences through music from the countryside and celebrate the beauty of Ilocano music.
With the rehabilitation of the CCP Main Building, CCP’s programs, shows and projects have gone beyond the corners of the complex to provide world-class artistic experience to more and more Filipino audiences while promoting and preserving the best of Filipino arts and culture.
