MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Sex and The City was all the rage in the late ’90s. Many of today’s millennials have grown up to Carrie and her fabulous friends navigating through life in upscale New York, making Sex and The City one of the most iconic series of all time.

When HBO launched its sequel And Just Like That, excited fans were curious about what the characters turned out to be in their 50s. The series premiered its second season on June 23.

Companion podcasts are gaining popularity as a promotional tool for media giants like HBO, Marvel, and Netflix.  It’s an effective way to engage an audience because it extends the conversation beyond the screen. Interest sparks conversations, and conversations spark interest.

There are over 460 million podcast listeners globally and this figure is expected to breach the 500 million mark by 2025 based on statistics from eMarketer and Podcast Index, and brands are taking advantage of this reach.

Podcaster Cara Eriguel is one of the Sex and The City fans thrilled by its sequel.

Just a day after the release of the Season 2 pilot of And Just Like That, Cara released her own fan-made companion podcast titled “It’s Just Like That After 30.”

The show is produced in collaboration with Podcast Network Asia, a media tech company behind Filipino-made podcast editing subscription platform Podmachine, which produces content for top-notch podcasters from around the world.

“I’m a huge fan of Sex and The City by the way. Grew up to it. Technically, grew up to it while binge-watched the show when I was grounded as a rebellious 16-year-old in college,” said Eriguel, who’s also behind the chart-topping podcast “After 30.”

“[I] felt the absolute need to create a whole new show and talk about my thoughts and feelings on it as a 35-year-old. Rewatching [Sex and The City] at 35 feels quite different. I didn’t quite resonate with Carrie that much because I have changed. The way I think has changed. My priorities and my life have changed,” she furthered.

The sequel drops new episodes every Friday at 3:00 pm on HBO Max while Podcast Network Asia releases a podcast episode every Saturday at 3:00 pm on all streaming platforms.
