MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Fresh from winning the Best Entertainment Host award at the Asian Academy Creative Awards (AACA) in Singapore last December for Drag Den Season 1, drag queen superstar Manila Luzon unwraps another gift to her fans as she drops her new single, “POM POM (Take Me High).” This electropop track is the official theme song for Drag Den with Manila Luzon Season 2: Retribution, which will be available on Amazon Prime, starting January 18.
First heard during the Inside the Drag Den video on YouTube, “POM POM (Take Me High)” serves as the perfect anthem for the second season of the Filipino reality competition series. The lyrics, written by Silas, playfully invite the listener into the colorful and captivating world of drag while also championing body positivity and celebrating the beauty of one’s personality. The music was produced also by Silas, in collaboration with Drag Den Creator and Director Rod Singh.
Manila Luzon’s signature sound delivers the lyrics with conviction while also infusing the right amount of sultriness throughout the song. Adding an extra layer of vibrancy to the already catchy vibe is Sassa Gurl, a viral content creator and judge of Drag Den Season 2. Sassa Gurl contributes her distinct voice and impressive rapping skills, enhancing the overall appeal of the track.
“POM POM (Take Me High)” is not just a song that proudly shows off the talent of Manila Luzon and Sassa Gurl. It is also a track that champions LGBTQIA+ representation and is proof that drag queens and queer artists have the voice to be heard and all the space to be appreciated. Indeed, representation matters.
Whether this becomes your new workout anthem, your go-to walking song, or the track to blast for an extra boost of confidence, POM POM (Take Me High) is primed to be a bop even after the reality TV show ends.
