MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Discover the intersections of dance and filmmaking at SAYAW SABAY KUHA, a dance film workshop hosted by FIFTH WALL. The one-day intensive will be on April 28, Sunday from 9:00 am to 6:00pm at the seventh floor of the Samsung Performing Arts Theater. It is part of the International Dance Day Festival presented by Ayala Land and Samsung Performing Arts Theater.
Dance film is a genre that combines elements of dance and filmmaking. It involves capturing movement performances on camera in creative and visually engaging ways. At SAYAW SABAY KUHA, participants will learn to adapt performances for the screen, study core methods, practice with cameras, and collaborate to produce a short dance film by the end of the session.
Film professionals Dominic Bekaert (Zoopraxi Studio) and Miko Reyes (Saint’s Production) will lead engaging lectures about the history of film and dance, shooting techniques, and analysis. The workshop will be moderated by dance artist and FIFTH WALL Founder and Director Madge Reyes. The workshop is open to beginner and intermediate filmmakers. Film equipment will be provided by Aputure Philippines and RSVP Film Studios.

Participants are to register individually but will work in groups to create their own short dance films. Each group will receive choreography and dancers, along with a basic shooting kit. Mentors will provide support and guidance, including assistance with editing, to help bring participants’ creative visions to life. Basic knowledge of editing is helpful but not required. Additionally, participants may bring any additional equipment they wish to use or provide.
