MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Novice celebrated its fifth year of championing local creatives with its debut exhibit, Spotlight: The Exhibit, featuring works from 55 remarkable creatives in print.
“This exhibit is not just a celebration of our journey, but mostly a tribute to the talented individuals who have contributed to our platform’s growth,” Novice shared on social media.
This milestone event showcases diverse and innovative Filipino artists featured in the #NoviceSpotlight digital issues from 2020 to 2023, offering a vibrant collection of visual art, illustrations, and photographs.
“I’m personally glad and grateful na yung exhibit na ito, it features artists from very different sorts of mediums. And for me, itong opportunity na ‘to is less of pinapalaki ko yung pangalan ko, [it’s] more like trying to network with other artists talaga sa local scene, learning to understand yung craft nila, how I can be inspired by different mediums, and how I can input it sa art ko moving forward,” shared Jyun, one of the featured artists, during a live episode of the ‘Di Na ‘To Drawing Podcast.
(I’m personally glad and grateful that this exhibit features artists from very different mediums and for me this opportunity is less about blowing up my reputation and more about networking with other artists in the local scene and learning to understand their craft, how I can be inspired by different mediums and how I can put it into my art moving forward.)
Novice’s Creative and Managing Director Allen Esteban expressed deep gratitude to all the creatives who generously shared their work on the platform. “Thank you for being an essential part of our journey. We look forward to celebrating this milestone with everyone. Sobrang solid ng lineup for the exhibit, and I think this is a testament to the flourishing creativity in our community. Their works reflect the heart and soul of Filipino creativity in visual arts, and we are excited to share them with you in person,” he said.
Staying true to Novice’s commitment to giving back to the community through art, postcard versions of the artworks will be available at the exhibit venue to help raise funds for their next mobile library. Limited copies of Novice prints will also be available onsite.
The exhibition is be held at the Convenience Coffeehouse, on the ground floor of The Atrium in Makati City, from June 29 until September 28. The venue is open from Monday to Saturday, 9:00 am to 7:00 pm.
