PASAY CITY, PHILIPPINES — In the wake of Typhoon Carina’s severe impact across Luzon and Metro Manila, the SM Group has intensified its relief efforts through the SM Foundation’s Operation Tulong Express (OPTE) program. The foundation has distributed over 23,000 “Kalinga” relief packs to those affected by the heavy rains and widespread flooding.

SM employee volunteers have been on the ground, delivering Kalinga Packs to several affected areas including Metro Manila, Bulacan, Bataan, Olongapo City, Pampanga, Rizal, and Cavite. These packs include essential supplies aimed at alleviating immediate needs and providing comfort to displaced families.

In a coordinated response, SM Supermalls has established OPTE booths in partnership with the Philippine Red Cross. These booths serve as hubs for distributing relief items and offering assistance to affected individuals.

To further support the community, SM malls have extended their services by offering free overnight parking for stranded individuals, as well as free WiFi and phone charging stations, to help people stay connected with their families and loved ones. Additionally, help desks have been set up at various SM Supermalls to provide critical information and support to local residents during this challenging time.

Operation Tulong Express (OPTE) is a social good program by the SM Foundation, in collaboration with SM Supermalls and SM Markets, dedicated to providing rapid response in times of calamity and crisis. Since its inception, the program has distributed over 800,000 Kalinga Packs nationwide.
