LONDON — Melvin Mangada, Chief Creative Officer and Managing Partner of TBWA\Santiago Mangada Puno (TBWA\SMP), has been selected as jury president for the Press Advertising category of the D&AD Awards. The selection includes four other top creatives from Asia, namely, Jureeporn Thaidumrong, CCO of GREYnJ Thailand, Theseus Chan, Designer from Work Singapore, Anita Nayyar, CEO, India & SE Asia of Havas Media India, and Fadi Yaish, ECD of ImpactBBDO UAE.
The selection of Mangada as jury president comes at the heels of TBWA\SMP’s winning bids at this year’s Awards. The agency bagged two Wood Pencils for ‘Dirty Watercolor’ for ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation, Inc. and ‘Correcting History’ for the Campaign Against the Return of the Marcoses to Malacanang or CARMMA — the only ones won by a Philippine outfit at this year’s event.
As ECD in TBWA\SMP, Mangada further brought home three more Wood Pencils for ‘Water Billboard’ for Shokubutsu HANA/Peerless Lion Corporation and the unlimited KFC gravy poster design for said fastfood chain in 2015 and for the ‘Mirror’ radio ad for The Red Whistle in 2014.
Mangada has also taken the top spot in the Executive Creative Director category at the adobo Creative Rankings for two consecutive years (2015-2016).
It is the second consecutive year that a Filipino has been selected as president of the Press Advertising category jury. Merlee Jayme, Chairmom and CCO of Dentsu Jayme Syfu held the position in 2017.
The D&AD Awards is known to be one of the toughest competitions in the advertising and creative industry. The competition focuses not just on brilliant ideas but on equally brilliant executions as well. Furthermore, it recognizes craftsmanship of creative work.
