Raising the bar: CREATE Philippines 2018 to feature industry’s best

In its second year, CREATE Philippines is set to inspire young creatives again not only to hone their skills, but also, to elevate Filipino talent to the global arena, now more than ever. The Philippine government launched this event last October 2017, instituting it as the core trade platform for learning, trade of knowledge, and bridging networks and businesses for local communiation industries. The goal is clear – establish the Philippines as a leading destination in the Asia-Pacific for creative content and services.

The Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM) of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) partnered with the Communication Design Association of the Philippines (CDAP), making CREATE Philippines possible. This event will gather top creatives and emerging talents from September 22 to 23, 2018 at The Globe Tower, Taguig.

This second edition will explore Communication Design, involving different disciplines aiming to deliver ideas and information in an efficient manner through various media. Global gurus will set the bar in their discussions in three tracks — Business Track, Design Track, and Industry Best practices.

GLOBAL CREATIVE GURUS

CREATE Philippines means learning from the best. Eight international and local speakers will lead the masterclasses in their respective forte. Topping the list is award-winning creative consultant Chris Do. His brand strategy design consultancy Blind pioneered Motion Design and garnered numerous recognitions including two Emmys, three Clios, and multiple Gold/Silver BDA awards among others. At CREATE Philippines, Do will engage participants in a day-long masterclass. In the morning session, he will conduct a lecture and question-based learning, while in the afternoon, participants can ask him questions on business scenarios and their own endeavours.

To enlighten participants on the status of the creative industry in the Philippines, CITEM’s Executive Director Paulina Suaco-Juan and Trade Undersecretary Nora Terrado will grace the event. Creative Economy Council of the Philippines President Paolo Mercado will present the “Industry Overview: Raising the Value of Design”. Mercado brings to the table years of experience as the Senior Vice President for Marketing, Communication and Innovation at Nestlé Philippines.

adobo magazine’s Founder, President and CEO Angel Guerrero will discuss the “Business of Design” from a Brand and Agency Perspective. Guerrero established adobo magazine after a 20-year career in the advertising industry handling global and regional brands. adobo magazine makes creativity live, being the Philippines’ and one of Asia’s leading multimedia channel on advertising, marketing, creatives, design and communications.

Creatives needing a bucket of inspiration to start their own business will surely get it from the speakers. One will be Team Manila founder Jowee Alviar, who will tackle “Growing Your Design Business”. He banks on Team Manila’s experiences including projects with Nike, Globe, Jollibee, Solaire and SM. Also taking pride of Filipino talent, Dan Matutina, founding partner of Plus63 Design Co. and the Hydra Design Group, will explain how independents built a modular design group. He earned his way to the industry’s top creative rank with his works for Apple, Google, Microsoft, Pinterest, Samsung, The Guardian and Nike (to name a few).

The Business Track kicks off with AJ Dimarucot, Creative Entrepreneur/Director of the Communication Design Association of the Philippines, who will discuss “Learning to Design Around Life”. Known for iconic shirts, Dimarucot have designed for personalities like Manny Pacquiao and Michael Jackson. He also worked with Nike, Jordan Brand, Adidas and Uniqlo.

The track then moves farther with Mark Joseph Deutsch who will elaborate “How Creativity Boosts Business”. He is the co-founder of Cebu-based Happy Garaje, known for graphic design, galleries, film and pictures which received the Gold award from the Society of Illustrators and have been included in the advertising index Luerzer’s Archive list of 200 Best Illustrators for the years 2009 through 2012.

If you want to understand the creative process behind collaborating with brands, Raxenne Dosher Maniquiz will be sharing her experiences in working as an illustrator for Plus63 Design Co., and in designing for Uniqlo Philippines, Bratpack, Digital Walker, Charles and Keith Philippines, Honda Japan, and Guess Philippines, among others.

The Design Track features a masterclass led by Rollan Bañez, co-founder of CreativeNation Academy, an Adobe Authorized Training Center, a Creative Cloud Evangelist, Philippines Adobe Certified Instructor, and Community Manager Adobe Creative Insider Ambassador. He will show how to make “Faster and Better Product Visualization Using Adobe Dimension CC”.
