Spikes Asia 2018: 14 categories release shortlists, TBWASantiago Mangada Puno, BBDO Guerrero, McCann Philippines, Aspac Creative Communications, Publicis JimenezBasic, Leo Burnett Manila, Ogilvy Philippines gain mentions

The first wave of Spikes Asia shortlists has been released earlier today, with 23 entries coming from the Philippines across 14 categories. 

TBWA\Santiago Mangada Puno led the Philippine shortlisters with 10 entries. The agency’s “Disgusting Stories” campaign for Bahay Tuluyan will gun yet again for more metals after being shortlisted under the Digital, Film, and Film Craft categories. Meanwhile, “Love Thy Neighbor” for Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas gained shortlist spots on the Digital and Film categories. “This is a Tree” for Boysen/Pacific Paints gained mentions under the Design and Outdoor categories. The agency also tallied three more shortlist spots under the Film category for “Anak” for BENCH, “Who Will Take Care of Me?” for Hero Foundation, and “NIM” for Nissan Philippines.

BBDO Guerrero followed with five shortlisted entries — “Wrong World Finals” for Snickers under Digital and Digital Craft, and “Playstreet” for Johnson & Johnson and “Field” and “Forest” for Messy Messy under Outdoor.

Meanwhile, McCann Philippines tallied three entries — “Moe”, “Darling”, and “Ed” for Fully Booked — all under the Radio & Audio category.

Five other agencies from the Philippines gained one shortlisted entry each.

Aspac Creative Communications grabbed a spot on the Design shortlist for “Labels for Unsung Heroes”, while Publicis JimenezBasic made it to the Digital category shortlist for “Piracy vs Piracy” for Globe Telecom. Leo Burnett Manila also had one shortlist nod for “McDelivery Pin” for McDonald’s Philippines under the Media Category. 

Rounding out the Philippine agencies with shortlisted entries were Ogilvy Philippines for “Foot” by Ogilvy Philippines for Master Facial Scrub/Unilever Philippines under the Outdoor category and production house WYD Productions for their “The Kaleidoscope Season 2 Episode 2 – The OPM Vinyl Collector” video for Globe Telecom under the Film Craft category. 

Here are the shortlist counts per category and links to the full lists for the first wave, which included Brand Experience & Activation, Design, Direct, Digital, Digital Craft, Film, Film Craft, Media, Mobile, Outdoor, PR, Print & Outdoor Craft, Print & Publishing, and Radio and Audio. 

Under Brand Experience & Activation, Japan had the most shortlisted entries with 24, led by Dentsu Inc. chipping in five entries. New Zealand came in second with 12; Australia with seven; South Korea with five; China with four; Thailand with three; India, Malaysia, Pakistan, Singapore, and Sri Lanka with two each; and Taiwan and Hong Kong with one each. 

Japanese agencies led the Design category with 27 shortlisted entries, 15 of which came from Dentsu Inc. Thailand was in far second with seven; Australia, India, and South Korea with five each; China and Pakistan with three each, the Philippines with two courtesy of TBWA\Santiago Mangada Puno and Aspac Creative Communications; and Bangladesh, Hong Kong, and Malaysia with one each. 

Australia dominated the Digital category with 37 shortlisted entries, eight of which came from BWM Dentsu Melbourne. Japan came in second with nine places; India with seven, the Philippines with five coming from BBDO Guerrero, TBWA\Santiago Mangada Puno, and Publicis JimenezBasic; New Zealand and South Korea with four each; China with three; Singapore with two; and Thailand with one count. 

Under the Digital Craft category, Japan tallied the most with five shortlisted entries; South Korea in second with four; New Zealand with two; Singapore with one; and the Philippines with one spot from BBDO Guerrero. 

The Mobile category came out with 22 shortlisted entries with seven coming from Australia, four from India, three each from New Zealand and the Netherlands, two from China, and one each from Singapore, South Korea, and Vietnam. 

The Direct category tallied 57 shortlisted entries. Australia claimed the most with 24, nine of which was held by CHE Proximity Melbourne. New Zealand had 11 shortlisted entries; Japan with nine, India with four, Pakistan with three, Singapore and South Korea with two each, and Malaysia and Thailand with one each.

Under Film, Australia produced the most number of shortlisted entries with 18. Japan followed with 13, Thailand with 10, China with six, India with four, the Philippines also with four all coming from TBWA\Santiago Mangada Puno, Malaysia and New Zealand with three each, and Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and South Korea with one each. 

The Film Craft saw Australia getting the most number of shortlisted entries with 26, followed by Japan with 18, Thailand with 10, New Zealand with nine, China and India with six each, Singapore with five, Taiwan and Malaysia with two each, and South Korea with one. The Philippines also gained two mentions courtesy of WYD Productions and TBWA\Santiago Mangada Puno. 

Australia topped the Media shortlist tally with 22 entries, six of which came from CHE Proximity Melbourne. New Zealand followed with 15, China with eight, India, Japan, and Thailand with five each, South Korea with three, Singapore with two, and Taiwan and Pakistan with one each. Leo Burnett Manila from the Philippines also chipped in one shortlisted entry. 

The Outdoor category came up with 54 shortlisted entries composed of 14 from Thailand, 10 from Hong Kong, nine from Australia, India with four, Japan, New Zealand, and Singapore with three each, Taiwan with two, and China and Pakistan with one each. The Philippines also had four entries coming from Ogilvy Philippines, BBDO Guerrero, and TBWA\Santiago Mangada Puno.

Under PR, India tallied 11 shortlisted entries, Japan with 10, Australia with nine, New Zealand with five, South Korea with four, Pakistan with three, and China, Taiwan, Singapore, and Thailand with one each. 

The Print & Publishing category produced a total of 32 shortlisted entries composed of 12 from Thailand, six from India, five each from China and Hong Kong, two each from Indonesia and Singapore, and one from Pakistan. 

Thailand produced the most number of shortlisted entries under Print & Outdoor Craft with 15, 11 of which were claimed by TBWA\Thailand. China and Hong Kong tied at second place with eight entries each; Japan with four; India, Indonesia and Malaysia with one each. 

Finally, the Radio & Audio category tallied 15 shortlisted entries, with six from Australia, three from the Philippines all from McCann Momentum Manila, two each from India and Japan, and one each from Sri Lanka and Hong Kong. 

Metal winners will be announced during the awarding ceremony on Friday, September 28.
