The pundits were right. "Carousel," a viral film by digital agency Tribal DDB and Stink Digital London, has won the Grand Prix for Film.
Created to promote the improved movie viewing offered on a new TV model called ‘Cinema’,’ the spot is a single-shot action epic – one that you can watch at different speeds, while interactively switching back and forth between the action and “the making of.” It’s a hypnotic experience. But at 2min 19 sec, it’s a whole different animal from spots that weave magic in 30 seconds.
For its part, Asia snagged 3 Gold Lions: “Sagami/Love Distance” won Gold for GT Tokyo, while "A Day in the Life of Chennai" for the Times of India won two Gold Lions for JWT Mumbai. Both have already won at other shows, including D&AD and ADFEST.
Here are Asia’s other Film Lions winners:
Silver Lion: Semir “Gymnastic”, Ogilvy Shanghai
Silver Lion Campaign: Kasikornbank “Long”/“Quick”, Ogilvy & Mather Bangkok;
Nokia N96 “Ping Pong”/“Match”, JWT Beijing
Bronze Lion: Syn Mun Kong Insurance “Thai Mung”, Lowe Bangkok
Also worth mentioning is a Silver Lion for Adidas "Break-Up Service", shot in Japan by director Kosai Sekine, but credited to TBWA\London.
