MANILA, Philippines — Designers from the Philippines, USA, and New Zealand have beaten more than 1,300 entries in Freelancer.com’s Valentine’s Day greeting card design contest.

To celebrate Valentine’s Day 2019, Freelancer.com held a crowdsourcing contest called “The World’s Greatest Valentine’s Day Greeting Card” for graphic designers all over the world.

22-year-old Riva Louise Vicente is named as one of the winners in its global search.

Vicente, a Quezon City-based graphic designer and an Advertising Arts graduate from Far Eastern University “can’tbelieve” she is the only winner from the Philippines. She rose to the top as one of the runners-up with her “I Love You Bear-y Much” entry.

“I came up with my idea by looking at what trend is in style nowadays, which is modern but witty. Saying I love you in a different way. I only used Adobe Photoshop and drawing tablet to create it,” Vicente stated.

The Filipina graphic designer added she will send her winning card to her dad who works abroad saying, “This is one of the few ways I can say how much I love him.”

She shares her runner-up win with Toni Freebairn, a graphic designer from New Zealand, each taking home a win of $100.

Freebairn said, “I still can’t believe that my entry “You’re The Only Bun For Me” was chosen! It’s a pretty amazing feeling knowing that work you have done is enjoyed by others. It makes me really happy and inspires me to continue on my creative journey.”

Devon Harrah from the United States bested more than 1,300 entries and is awarded with $200. His win arrived just in time for his wife to receive his “Love You, Octopi My Thoughts” Valentine’s Day card which he personally made.

“I love aquatic themes, and I had a couple of ocean-related puns lined up… I jot down my ideas, make a rough sketch, and then fully invest myself. This particular piece I created in Adobe Photoshop CC [Creative Cloud],” the American comic artist and illustrator mentioned.

The Valentine’s Day competition comes as the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) launched the final wave of crowdsourcing contests in its Astrobee Challenge Series on the Freelancer.com marketplace. In its continuing efforts to tap into the crowd to source new solutions from its global community, the contest aims to solve tricky engineering problems for technology that may one day end up on the International Space Station (ISS).
