Singapore – Humans and felines in co-existence is the focus of the The 9 Lives Art & Design Exhibition by The 9 Lives Show 2019 (2nd Edition) running at 51 Waterloo Street #02-01 in Singapore. With the country’s rumpant urbanization, the exhibit aims to spread the message of animal welfare and empathy among civilians.
As a part of the Singapore Design Week (SDW) 2019 Satellite Programme, The 9 Lives Show 2019 showcases the multi-faceted creations of 9 artists whose work reflects the robust and vibrant arts landscape in Singapore.

Through their respective genres (photography, illustration, fibre art, ceramics, literature, visual art, videography and paint), the artists will address the theme: How might we present stories of urbanization in Singapore affecting the ecosystems that are knitted to them, specifically cats?

Their curated artistic expressions aim to provide new points of view in the ongoing dialogue that centre on animal welfare; in particular, cats and urbanization.
“The purpose of 9 Lives Show is to bring awareness through art and design, being neutral channels, to the unknowing public on the importance of urbanization and co-existence with animals. The show also brings together like-minded people to help raise funds for the Cat Welfare Society of Singapore to help them with the critical ongoing work in mediation and cat sterilisation,” said Ms Tan Chin Chin, Director of the 9 Lives Show 2019.
Among the installation is Adeline Loo’s fiber art “No Room to Swing a Cat.” Made from 900 strings, each thread represents a cat culled by the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA).
Other art installation includes “A Tale of Two Kitties,” “The Guardians of Neptune Court” and “Chapel of Discard.” A Tale of Two Kitties is inspired by true events and recounts the turbulent journey of community cats, left for dead, as their habitat is razed to the ground.
“Through this 9 Lives Show, we want society to focus on the strength in our humanity seen in the deep connection between our community cats and humans. It is in line with our vision of ensuring that we live in a humane society where every cat in Singapore has a place to call home,” added Ms Laura Ann Meranda, Executive Director of Cat Welfare Society.
The 9 Lives Show was directed by Tan Chin Chin, Creative Director of 9 Lives Show and Owner of Goood Pet Collars; and Co-Organized by Jacqueline Goh and Brenda Ng, Owners of Can & Clover.

The 9 Lives Show 2019 is co-organized by GOOOD Pet Collars and Can & Clover. A first-of-its-kind when launched in 2017, the Show provides a unique design and artistic platform for creators to showcase how good design can improve the experiences and wellbeing of cats, whilst cultivating a deeper appreciation for quality design. A core mission of 9 Lives lies in promoting awareness of and empathy for the safe living conditions of stray and community cats.
