PHILIPPINES, OCTOBER 1, 2010 – Happyland, the first Filipino football movie, debuts on the big screen as the closing film at Pelicula, the 9th Spanish Film Festival on October 10, 7PM at Greenbelt 3 Cinema 1.

The ongoing film festival showcases 23 films from Spain and Latin America.

The film is about a Spanish missionary priest’s goal to bring football to Tondo, one of Manila’s most impoverished districts and the generations of young men who became Tondo’s legendary barefoot players. Happyland is directed by Jim Libiran, who megged the Cinemalaya 2008 Best Film, Tribu.

Jose Rodriguez, Director of Instituto Cervantes, the festival organizer, said that Happyland was selected not only because it is about Spain’s national sport, but also because of the social issues tackled in the film. He added that through this year’s festival, the biggest and most anticipated Pelicula Film Festival in the whole of Asia, the relationship between the Philippines and Spain will further deepen. Spain won the 2010 World Cup in South Africa earlier this year.
