THE Cultural Center of the Philippines closes off the decade with a new media exhibition by Gericho Iniel Cruz. The exhibit #AngAlamatNgMalikhaingKonsyumer or Ang Alamat ng Malikhaing Konsyumer opens on December 5, 2019 at the CCP’s Pasilyo Vicente Manansala (2F Hallway Gallery) at 6pm. This three-part show presents 360 degree videos of different aspects of, or “spectacles” at the CCP. Viewers will experience the physical exhibitions through a virtual tour using a Google cardboard virtual reality device placed on three church pews at the exhibition area. This is the first time that Cruz exhibits his work at the CCP, and he conceptualized it to support the ongoing 50th anniversary celebration of the Center.
Cruz’s interest in new media art started with him creating glitch paintings in 2011. From there, he started to theorize the notion of glitch through art and its parallels in society. He included videos, circuits, microcontrollers, IPad’s and other forms of new media in the various group exhibitions that he joined thereafter, such as those in Kaida Gallery, Altro Mondo, and Vinyl on Vinyl.
The exhibit #AngAlamatNgMalikhaingKonsyumer will run until January 19, 2020. Exhibit viewing hours are Tuesday to Sunday, 10am to 6pm. Hours are extended until 10pm on days with evening performances at the CCP Main Theater.
