GLOBAL – AUGUST 2011 – Team Boomerang One from Edith Cowan University, Perth, Western Australia was declared World Champion of the annual International Advertising Association (IAA) InterAd XIII global student advertising competition. Boomerang One advanced to the world finals amongst entries from all continents.
The International Advertising Association’s (IAA) InterAd XIII competition is part of the Education and Professional Development program and is designed to give students the opportunity to test their skills with a real world client case study. This year’s brief was developed with Dentsu London and its client Canon Europe. The brief asked for a game changing brand campaign that disrupts the category and breaks all conventions.
Chairman of the Jury and Dentsu London’s Managing Director Ida Rezvani, said, “Although all teams clearly worked incredibly hard to deliver their presentations, it was interesting that some chose quite a theoretical approach. It was very clear that Boomerang One were the winning team and by far, the most creative. Whilst robust thinking is a huge part of what we do, we get paid to deliver creative work as that’s the bit clients can’t do themselves.”
Boomerang’s faculty advisor is Clive Barstow. The team members include Annabel Slade, Jakob Reimerson, Colby Lathwell, Jon Ismailovski, Jack Geerssen and Sebastian Forsström. The team will receive an award and certificates at an event in London hosted by the IAA UK Chapter on September 16th.
Five other regional teams also reached the IAA InterAd XIII World finals and will be given global runner-up awards based on their juried scores. Global runners-up are University of Canberra, Australia (1st place), Imaginarium – Emerson College, USA (2nd Place/Regional Winner USA), Cuore – UNIACC, Chile (3rd Place/Regional Winner Latin America). Other runners-up are CanOnly – Hallym University, South Korea (Regional Winner Asia), Pixel Weasel – National School of Political Studies & Administration, Romania (Regional Winner Europe), and NDU 1 – Notre Dame University, Lebanon (Regional Winner Middle East/Africa).
