ASIA-PACIFIC – SINGAPORE, SEPTEMBER 6, 2011: Leo Burnett & Arc Asia Pacific is bringing one of Australia’s most celebrated indie rock bands, Rudely Interrupted, to Singapore for a performance at the Spikes Asia Awards Afterparty at IndoChine Empress Place on September 20. The event closes the three-day Spikes Asia Advertising Festival.
The band, which has five out of six members living with disabilities, is also the star of the award-winning campaign “See the Person” developed for Scope, one of the largest providers of services to people with a disability in Victoria. The Leo Burnett Melbourne-developed campaign was recently recognized with the prestigious Grand Prix for Good award at Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity 2011.
“The performance in Singapore will mark the Melbourne-based band’s first ever gig in Asia, having perform at music and arts festivals at home in Australia and internationally including the USA, Canada and the UK,” said Jarek Ziebinski, President, Leo Burnett & Arc Asia Pacific.
Continued Ziebinski,” We had the wonderful opportunity to work with Rudely Interrupted on the ‘See The Person’ campaign in Melbourne and have the first hand knowledge of their talent and dynamic performance. Spikes Asia is the region’s premium creative festival featuring a line-up of world-class presenters, jury members and attendees; it seems only fitting that we bring a world-class band like Rudely Interrupted to perform at the event. This amazing group of talented musicians not only create great music but also challenges public perception of living with disability in a beautiful way.”
Bringing the band’s performance to life will be an interactive digital projection on the façade of the Asian Civilisation Museum developed by Leo Burnett Group Singapore in partnership with Aims Integrated Marketing Agency.
Originally formed in 2006 by Rohan Brooks, a professional musician who was also working as a music therapist/instructor at St John of God’s Chringa Day Service in Victoria, Australia, teaching the popular School of Rock class to people with disabilities, Rudely Interrupted first began to perform live in inner city Melbourne in 2007 and quickly went on to perform at mainstream music venues, international music and arts festivals at home in Australia and the USA, Canada and the UK.
In December 2009, the documentary "Rudely Interrupted" had its world premier on ABC1 TV Australia/NZ which went on to receive glowing reviews.
Band members are Rory Burnside on lead vocals and guitars, Constance ‘Connie’ Kirkpatrick on tambourines and bass, Josh Hogan on drums, Marcus Stone on keyboards/synths, Sam Beke on bass and the band’s manager Rohan Brooks on backing vocals and guitar.
