MANILA, JUNE 10, 2013 – The Philippine Department of Health (DOH) is working with strategic marketing communications firm TeamAsia on Pilipinas Go4Health, its latest health awareness campaign.

Go4Health is a nationwide healthy lifestyle movement that is intended to help prevent and control non-communicable diseases or NCDs in the Philippines. It aims to improve public health by informing Filipinos of the deleterious effects of poor lifestyles, as well as encouraging them to make a personal commitment to improving health through frequent exercise, eating properly and reducing or stopping smoking and alcohol consumption.

While they are preventable, the DOH says that the incidence of these diseases is on the rise due to bad lifestyle habits including lack of regular exercise, poor diet and excessive consumption of alcohol and smoking.

The effect of these bad habits upon health and wellbeing has been firmly established. A sedentary lifestyle can lead to increased risk for heart disease, stroke, diabetes, obesity and some kinds of cancer, among other such conditions and diseases. Smoking has been directly linked to emphysema, lung cancer and bronchial disorders. Excess alcohol consumption, meanwhile, has been proven to not only ruin health in the medium to long term, but can also contribute to risky behavior that can lead to accidents.

TeamAsia has come on board to help the DOH develop this campaign, and will also help produce collaterals to aid in marketing and awareness-building and also help organize related events including exhibits and installations.
