MANILA, JULY 10, 2013 – PLDT has signed a three-year digital music market deal with Universal Music, to distribute content through a dedicated label, Smart Music.

Launched via its Philippine unit MCA Music, Universal Music aims to lessen piracy by providing affordable prices for song downloads, with prices relatively cheaper than iTunes. The music giant is hopeful that this effort will shift consumers’ attitude to legal music downloading platforms.

The deal is available to prepaid and postpaid subscribers of Smart, Talk ‘N Text and Sun. Smart Music is looking at a P15-P20 price range for a song, whereas Apple’s iTunes store offers more than P40 apiece.
