Awards: APAC agencies bag 368 awards at the 15th Mad Stars, Japan tops with 63 trophies

BUSAN, SOUTH KOREA – As the 15th annual MAD STARS festival announced this year’s list of winners from 73 countries, the award show also honored the top performing agencies from the Asia Pacific region that has bagged this year’s trophies. A total of 368 accolades were awarded to excellent advertising work from the region, with countries such as Japan, Australia, New Zealand, India and Singapore besting its regional neighbors.

The number of awards received per Asia Pacific country are as follows:

  • Japan – 63
  • New Zealand – 52
  • Australia – 50
  • India – 47
  • Singapore – 42
  • China – 31
  • Thailand – 27
  • South Korea – 17
  • Philippines – 12
  • Bangladesh – 11
  • Vietnam – 6
  • Hong Kong – 5
  • Malaysia – 5

Japan tops the region’s overall performance, contributing 63 trophies to APAC’s collective win. Some of the big awards it received are: Gold for “3cm Market” by Dentsu Inc. and Gold for “Camouflage Against the Machines” by Dentsu Inc., both in the Design category. It also won Gold for “Find Your Own Way” and “The Passion Never Stops” by Dentsu Inc., “Hair album” by TAIYO KIKAKU Co., Ltd.,and “Play New | New Girl” by Wieden+Kennedy Tokyo – all in the Film category. These are just a few of the Gold-winning campaigns that came out of Japan this year.

As for New Zealand, with a total of 52 awards, the highest accolades it received are the following: Grand Prix for “Samsung iTest” by DDB Group Aotearoa New Zealand for AD STARS Direct and AD STARS Mobile; and Grand Prix for “David’s Unusables” by agency Special in the AD STARS Social & Influencer category. The New Zealand wins span from Grand Prix trophies to Bronze accolades.

Australian agencies also won big this year with 50 trophies. It’s top awards from the night include the following: Gold for “See what your shipmates can’t” by VMLY&R in the Design category; Gold for “Road Horrors” by DDB Group Sydney in Design; Gold for “Don’t be a Tosser” by Paper Moose Pty Ltd. in Film; Gold for “Thrive by Five” by M&C Saatchi Sydney for PR, and so on.
