MANILA, PHILIPPINES – The Junior Achievement (JA) of the Philippines was named the winner of a Bronze Stevie Award for Innovation in Community Relations/Public Service Communications category in the ninth annual Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards.
JA Philippines won the prestigious accolade for its “Cha-Ching Financial Literacy Program for the Youth.” With over 5,000 schools and 160,000 students participating each year, JA Cha Ching is the Philippines’ largest and most popular financial literacy program for middle school students.
JA Philippines Executive Director Krishna C. Alejandrino said that the Stevie award shall serve as an inspiration to the local JA team to even go beyond the organization’s mission to start the Filipino youth early on their journey to financial prosperity.
“We are deeply honored by this recognition, and we will do our best at JA Philippines to maximize the potential of the Cha-Ching program and our nationwide network of educators to shape the next generation of financially literate Filipinos,” said Alejandrino.
A partnership among Pru Life UK, JA Philippines, JA Asia Pacific, and the Department of Education, the Cha-Ching program in the Philippines has continued to grow with the integration of its curriculum in the country’s educational system. Under the program, students immerse in learning modules that teach the four money-smart concepts – Earn, Save, Spend and Donate, along with other Cha-Ching activities like the Alkansya (Money Box) Challenge, Cha-Ching Club, Quiz Day, Donation Drives, and homework that involve the participation of the parents.
Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Cha-Ching has been taught in a face-to-face classroom setting in JA’s partner institutions but has temporarily shifted to TV and radio instructions. Part of its 360 approach, the Cha-Ching Financial Accreditation, an online assessment tool, was also created to gauge the knowledge of educators when it comes to the effectiveness of the method utilized in teaching the advocacy. In 2021, Cha-Ching was able to garner 6,747 educators under the program, bringing the cumulative number to 11,910 teachers.
JA Philippines, along with other winners, will be celebrated during a virtual awards ceremony on June 29, 2022. The only business awards program that recognizes innovation in the workplace in 29 APAC nations, the Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards received over 900 nominations from organizations across the region this year. Winners were determined by the average scores of more than 100 executives around the world acting as judges in March and April.
“The ninth edition of the Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards attracted many remarkable nominations,” said Stevie Awards president Maggie Miller. “The organizations that won this year have demonstrated that they have continued to innovate and succeed despite the COVID-19 pandemic, and we applaud them for their perseverance and creativity.”
