MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Yesterday, June 14, 2022, the Good Design Award Philippines (GDA-Ph) announced its winners at the awarding ceremony at the Ayala Museum in Makati City. GDA-Ph is a national recognition system launched by Design Center of the Philippines that celebrates local artists, designers, and businesses that have showcased design excellence with an emphasis on malasakit. Among the submissions, this was best embodied by the CocoPatch, this year’s top winner.

The CocoPatch is a coconut-based wound dressing by PatchMed Cosmetic Trading. Its ergonomic and sustainable design for wound care checked all the boxes that GDA-Ph looks for in a winning entry: a design that embodies form, function, innovation, and aims to uplift Filipinos’ quality of life.

In addition to winning the Gold Award and the Green Award, PatchMed Cosmetic Trading went home with The Gran Prix Malasakit award. This is the highest form of recognition given by the awards show and is given to the submission that did not only exemplify good design but also was the most effective in addressing the UN Sustainability and Development Goals.

“Filipinos are well-known to be naturally creative but what really makes Philippine design stand out is malasakit,” said Department of Trade and Industry Undersecretary Irineo Vizmonte.
