MarCom Awards 2023 recognizes COMCO SEA and Century Tuna with Platinum Award for ‘Saving Our Seas’

MANILA, PHILIPPINES — COMCO Southeast Asia, the New PR and Smart Social agency of the powerhouse and award-winning communications group COMCO Mundo League of Enterprises, and its partner brand, Century Tuna, the leading canned tuna product in the Philippines, has recently received the Platinum Award for Strategic Communications for the “Saving Our Seas” initiative from the globally acclaimed MarCom Awards 2023.

Administered by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals (AMCP), the USA-based MarCom Awards underscores excellence in marketing and communication by recognizing the creativity, hard work, and generosity of professionals in the industry.

Anchored on protecting the Philippines’ bountiful marine biodiversity, Century Tuna’s “Saving Our Seas” Initiative was launched to address the threat of the growing problem of plastic pollution. The Saving Our Seas initiative also became an avenue to reinforce the idea of a Plastic Circular Economy through various executions such as the celebration of Earth Hour, community visits and engagement, and other sustaining activities.

The Saving Our Seas Initiative became the biggest clean-up project in the history of Anilao in Mabini, Batangas which is part of the world’s “Center of the Center of Marine Biodiversity” and the birthplace of scuba diving in the Philippines. In total, the launch gathered 156 trash bags with 805.4 kilograms of trash collected by a total of 212 clean-up volunteers, joined by Century Tuna Ambassador Alden Richards and the Century Tuna Superbods.

During its pilot year, the Saving Our Seas initiative reached its target of collecting 10,000 kilograms or 10 metric tons of trash through its Cash-to-Waste program in partnership with Generation HOPE’s Aling Tindera.
