MANILA, PHILIPPINES — The 4As Philippines and the Creative Guild celebrated a successful return to in-person judging and awarding at this year’s Kidlat Awards 2024 at the Ayala Museum, bringing together the best of the country’s young and veteran creatives. With the guiding theme of “Hypercreativity,” this year’s CreativeFest 2024 set the stage perfectly for the evening’s awards night, naming the winning works that exhibited the most unlimited and diverse forms of creative communications today.
Hosted by RX 93.1’s Rico Robles, the electrifying evening of awards and creative excellence was opened with the welcoming remarks by 4As Philippines President and Chief Executive Officer of Seven AD Teeny Gonzales: “Hyper – which means above, beyond, excitable going beyond the three dimensions – always entails some sort of risk. Hypercreativity is the only way we can survive the onslaught of new media and new options.. Tonight we celebrate hypercreatives that show the way forward and show us how it’s done.”
The opening remarks was then presented by Creative Guild President and Havas Media Ortega Executive Creative Director, Angie Tijam-Tohid: “It’s the honor of a lifetime to serve this industry I’ve been a part of for the past two decades. Tonight, we celebrate the 16th edition of the Kidlat Awards, the premier advertising show of the Philippine advertising industry. Hypercreativity is this year’s theme – a tribute to the creatives who never stay put, and always stay unlimited.”
She went on, “This year we added the Audio Craft category, and we also launched Creativity Unlimited, where we looked beyond our industry to celebrate creativity in all forms. We’ve received a total of 692 entries.. even the number of entries is [in hyperdrive] as well.”
Kidlat Awards 2024 Special Awards
Three special awards were presented at the Kidlat ceremony as well, honoring astounding creative leaders who have contributed immensely to the Philippine advertising scene.
Firstly, the newest Creative Guild Hall of Fame inductee was presented to Maan Bautista, VML Executive Creative Director. During her acceptance speech, Maan shared, “I am good with pitches; I am not good with speeches,” earning adoring laughs from her colleague.
She furthered, “This speech has been the hardest JO of my career. I am an introvert, and after thinking until 4:00 pm today, I went back to the basic writing principle: Write what you know.”
“So, in doing this speech, I also share tips for public speaking for introverts. First, know and obsessively learn from the greats. Second, planning is your friend. Finally, be yourself. Let’s do more awesome work together as a country and put the Philippines in the map! Ang galing natin guys and ituloy-tuloy lang natin yan.”
The Lifetime Achievement Award for Production was then awarded to Lorna Lopez Tabuena. Upon receiving her award, she shared, “I am humbled as I stand here in behalf of the production people for their talent and hard work that gained us this honor. This is for them. Maraming maraming salamat po.“
Meanwhile, the Lifetime Achievement Award for Creative was given to David Guerrero, Creative Chairman of BBDO Guerrero. “This is why I think we have the best job (for me): If you love your work, can travel, meet world leaders, meet the person of your dreams, make a family, make great friends, be creative… That’s what makes this award so special. It’s taken me 37 years to get this award. And it feels like it’s been worth every minute. ‘The work. The work. The work.’ But it’s always been ‘the people. the people. the people.’ who made it possible.”
Furthermore, the KPB Outstanding Audio award was granted to “KitKat – Comma” by VML Manila for Nestlé Philippines.
