ASIA-PACIFIC – BANGKOK, THAILAND, JANUARY 23, 2012: Fabulous Four, Asia Pacific’s most respected showcase of emerging directors, has lined up 24 new directors in the running for the coveted seats. ADFEST received scripts from Dhaka, Tokyo, Shanghai, Sydney, Melbourne, Beijing, Jakarta, Hong Kong, Hangzhou, Quezon (City), and Selangor Darul Ehsan – but only four of these shortlist contenders will make the cut.
ADFEST president Jimmy Lam said that he is delighted with the turnout of entries. “Fabulous Four remains (as) the region’s top career launching pad for up-and-coming directors – a chance for them to make their first ‘big break’,” Lam said.
“The Fabulous Four concept is very similar to the Young Lotus Workshop,” said Vinit Suraphongchai, chairman of the ADFEST working committee. “Young directors are given a brief, and the Fabulous Four directors… then come to ADFEST to showcase their films to an audience of the region’s top creatives. They get very good credentials and recognition after taking part in this short film initiative,” continued Suraphongchai, who also underscored ADFEST’s commitment of supporting the careers of emerging creative professionals.
The Fabulous Four directors will be announced in February and will have one month to direct a short film based on this year’s ADFEST theme “Fast Forward”. The final works will premiere on March 20, which also marks the last day of ADFEST 2012.
