THE PHILIPPINES, JULY 23, 2012: Following the first efforts of MyShelter Foundation and its volunteers, Isang Litrong Liwanag (A Liter of Light), led by the foundation’s executive director Illac Diaz, aims to provide solar light to families in an unexpected way – recycled clear plastic soda bottles.
This year’s Cinemalaya, the annual independent film festival in the Philippines, will showcase the story behind the “solar bottle” project, which has affected individuals and communities and gained global recognition as the first grassroots green lighting program in the world. What started out as an initiative with one carpenter and one set of tools in one town has now become a truly global phenomenon, proving that community-led movements to lead the green revolution from the bottom up is possible and can succeed.
Isang Litrong Liwanag shows how everyone can be a part of making the world a brighter place to live: an inspiring story about how a developing country is sharing the t of low-tech, high-impact grassroots empowerments with the rest of the world.
Special screening is on July 26, 2012, 3:30pm at the Dream Theatre, CCP.
