GLOBAL – MARCH 6, 2012: In its typical style, Apple Inc. has revealed the smallest of hints about the latest version of its highly popular tablet computer, the iPad. Dubbed by most as the “iPad 3”, the device is expected to be debuted tomorrow, March 7, at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, California, in Apple Inc.’s first major media event since the death of Steve Jobs.
This launch follows the timing of the launch of the device’s predecessors. The original iPad was introduced at the end of January 2010; the iPad 2 was revealed on March 2, 2011.
More than the new device, however, the event will also gauge the on-stage performance of Apple’s new chief executive Tim Cook as he introduces the product. Jobs has been touted as a wizard at making people see how “magical” the company’s innovations are.
Speculation is rife that the “iPad 3” will feature a display close to the caliber of the iPhone 4S’s resolution, a faster processor, and a more powerful camera. Siri, the iPhone 4S’s virtual assistant, is also rumored to be another addition. According to Silicon Valley analyst Rod Enderle, Apple may also soon introduce a smaller, cheaper version of the iPad in order to beat the rising competition from Barnes & Noble’s Nook and Amazon’s Kindle Fire, the latter of which is sold at half the price of the iPad.
