GLOBAL – CANADA, JULY9, 2013 – Molson Coors is retracting its Coors Light account in Canada from BBDO after the agency won Bud Light account in United States a month ago.
The Coors Light account was awarded to BBDO’s Toronto office in March this year after dropping DraftFCB Canada.
The sudden decision resulted from an evident cross-border conflict – Moral Coors and Bud Light being rivals.According to trade publication Beer Marketer’s Insights, Bud Light is the top-selling beer brand in the U.S. with 18.6% market share followed by Coors Light with 8.7% share.
Molson Coors isnow considering different Canadian agencies and will be announcing in the coming weeks whichwill be awarded the Coors Light account.
BBDO also faces potential conflict issues with the accounts it holds from New York, namely, Diageo-owned Guinness and Red Stripe beer brands.
