MANILA, APRIL 5, 2013 – Both GMA Network and ABS-CBN are claiming dominance over March 2013 TV Ratings – signifying that the long-standing rivalry between two of the country’s biggest broadcasting companies just isn’t dying down soon.
According to Nielsen, the Kapuso Network has maintained it’s spot as the leading Filipino local-TV network by topping ABS-CBN by 4.3 points as to Urban Luzon’s total audience share and 6.9 points as to Mega Manila’s. The Nielsen TV Audience Measurement makes use of statistical data gathered within Urban Luzon and Mega Manila (consisting of Metro Manila, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite and Laguna), all in all 34 million individuals, to represent the totality of the Philippine TV household population. AGB Nielsen Media Research (Philippines), a subsidiary of the Nielsen Company/WPP Group, also provides marketing data for the TV5 Kapatid Network.
Meanwhile, Kantar Media data confirm that the number one spot for Philippine TV news and entertainment belongs to the Kapamilya Network, topping GMA by 10 points with a total average audience share of 41%, declaring “Juan dela Cruz” as the most viewed teleserye for the entire month of March. ABS-CBN counts on Kantar Media’s "panel size of 2,609 urban and rural homes that represent 100% of the total Philippine TV viewing population”, used in gathering statistical data.
Kantar report shows that ABS-CBN has maintained its leadership in key territories such as Balance Luzon (areas in Luzon outside Mega Manila), where it records 43% audience share as opposed to GMA’s 34%. It also claims a bigger share in Visayas with 49% and in Mindanao with 54%.
