MANILA – January 27, 2014 – World-renowned Filipino designer Kenneth Cobonpue was recently voted Designer of the Year for the first edition of MAISON&OBJET ASIA, an international trade fair for lifestyle fashions and trends.

As Designer of the Year, Cobonpue will be given an opportunity to design an aspect of the show in Singapore and will play the role of ambassador for MAISON&OBJET ASIA. The Designer of the Year MAISON&OBJET ASIA 2014 was selected from among top Asian designers who have made a strong impression in their field of design.

Cobonpue is a Cebu-based furniture designer and graduated from Pratt Institute of New York. His works gained numerous recognitions, such as the Design for Asia Award (2005), Coup de Couer Award in MAISON ET OBJET PARIS, and Best of the Year Award by Interior Design Cabaret Sofa (2012). His work has appeared in films and TV shows Ocean 13 and CSI and were featured by Newsweek, TIME, the International Herald Tribune and New York Times. He was also been invited to share his creative insights around the globe.

Cobonpue’s iconic works can be seen in his first showroom which was opened last October in Greenbelt, Makati. “When I wanted to open my first showroom in the world, I was thinking of places like Miami, Barcelona, but then I decided not to. It should rightly be here in my country. Because this is where I live, where I was born, where I work, and where everything is made,” he said.

With the rattan’s first virtuoso, as Cobonpue was described by TIME magazine, MAISON &OBJET ASIA also spotlights other Asian talents Mike Mak (Hong Kong), Denny R Priyata (Indonesia), Melvin Ong (Singapore), Liliana Manahan (Philippines), Sittichai Ngamhontong (Thailand) and Yu Fen Lo (Taiwan) in their Rising Asian Talents exhibition.

MAISON &OBJET ASIA will be held in Singapore from March 10 to 13, 2014.
