ASIA PACIFIC – January 9, 2014 – Nominations for the EE British Academy Film Awards were revealed yesterday and FOX International Channels Asia (FIC) earned 25 nominations for films to which it has acquired the pay-TV rights in Hong Kong and Southeast Asia.
Recognized as the British counterpart to the Academy Awards and hosted by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), the EE British Academy Film Awards honor and celebrate the greatest international talents from the world of film. The awards ceremony will be held on 16 February 2014.
FIC’s dedication to bringing exceptional feature films to audiences across Asia was underlined by the number of nominations received by films to which it has acquired the pay-TV rights for broadcast on its premier Hollywood movie channel, FOX Movies Premium (FMP), FIC said in a press release.
The nominations were led by the historical-epic, 12 Years a Slave, which has dominated the 2014 awards season so far. It received a staggering 10 nominations for Britain’s top awards ceremony, including those for the coveted ‘Best Film’ award, ‘Best Director’ for Steve McQueen, ‘Leading Actor’ for Chiwetel Ejiofor and ‘Supporting Actor’ and ‘Supporting Actress’ for Michael Fassbender and Lupita Nyong’o respectively.
Saving Mr. Banks, which tells the story behind Walt Disney’s Mary Poppins, also performed well, attracting five nominations including ‘Outstanding British Film’, ‘Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer’ for writer Kelly Marcel and ‘Leading Actress’ for Emma Thompson.
Brian Lau, Senior Vice President of Content and Communications at FIC Asia said, “The number of nominations received by the fantastic films to which we have acquired the pay-TV rights is inspiring, as we continue bring our viewers the very best content as recognised by one of the industry’s most influential and prestigious awards ceremonies.”
