MANILA, JUNE 10, 2013 – Globe has announced that its mobile browsing segment, which encompasses a wide range of offerings such as mobile data plans and more focused social-networking plans, is now its fastest-growing product line.
As evidence, Globe president and CEO Ernest Cu points to the fact that mobile browsing and other data revenues currently account for 13 percent of total mobile revenues, up from 12 percent in the 4th quarter of 2012 and 10 percent in the first quarter of 2012.
Jenny Granada-Echevarria, head of Globe Mobile Data Services, said that the company is happy to see how its mobile browsing business has grown and how its offers have been popular among subscribers, a far cry from the days during which mobile browsing was unpopular due to ‘billshock’ or poor understanding as to how it works. Granada-Echevarria added that the booming popularity of smartphones and instant internet access has led to Globe seeing big potential for mobile browsing as the ‘next best thing’ for both the company as well as the industry.
