THE PHILIPPINES, NOVEMBER 23, 2011: Following an intense pitch stretched over several months, Globe Telecom officially announced the appointment of ZenithOptimedia as the company’s new media agency of record for planning and buying, effective January 1, 2012.

Led by former Universal McCann (UM) head Venus Navalta, who previously handled the Globe account, Zenith Optimedia beat out GroupM´s MEC and Mindshare, as well as incumbent Universal McCann for the account, which Nielsen reported as worth PHP3.7 billion in 2010.

The pitch came after the end of UM´s contract. Globe has been one of UM’s most valuable clients since 2006. Coincidentally, Universal McCann managing director Dino Laurena, who replaced Navalta at UM in 2009, recently announced his retirement from the industry.

During the heat of the pitch, Mindshare released a full-page print ad with the Globe and Mindshare logos as an initiative—proof of the lengths the media agencies went to secure the business.

ZenithOptimedia scored well across the criteria set by Globe, particularly in strategic thinking and existing local and global resources. “The agency is delighted in the trust and confidence that Globe has bestowed on ZenithOptimedia. We are excited to deliver communications that are differentiated, effective, accountable and  will take Globe Telecom to new heights,” said Navalta.

ZenithOptimedia’s clients include Nestlé, L’Oreal, Sanofi-Aventis, SAFI/NutriAsia, Reckitt-Benckiser, Lamoiyan and Megaworld.
