Grand Kapamilya Weekend: Two days of Philippine TV history

MANILA – October 7, 2013 – Classic TV shows made a comeback, while actors both old and new reunited at the Quezon City Memorial Circle as ABS-CBN celebrated their 60th anniversary dubbed "Kwento ng Kasiyahan: The Grand Kapamilya Weekend" on October 5 and 6.

 
The jampacked Quezon City landmark was filled with audiences young and old, who witnessed classic TV actors like Nova Villa, Freddie Webb and Smokey Manaloto as they performed a skit of their old shows onstage. 
 
It’s Showtime, the network’s noontime show, kicked off the event with a live telecast featuring a Kapamilya star-studded program. The box-office hit movie, It takes a Man and a Woman, entertained the audience in the afternoon followed by the appearance of Piolo Pascual, Bea Alonzo and Enrique Gil. After the screening, the audience were serenaded by Jed Madela, Yeng Constantino, Juris, Bugoy Drilon and a lot more in "MOR LIVE: Kwento ng Musikang Pilipino", a free concert.
 
For the benefit and rehabilitation of the Pasig River, thousands of runners from Davao, Cebu, Bacolod, Quezon City and Los Angeles, USA participated in One Run One Philippines, which was held simultaneously on the dawn of October 6. 
 
The party continued as ASAP 18 held a live telecast of their program from the Marikina Sports Complex. Moreover, Basketball and Volleyball tournaments were part of the celebration as sports-active stars sweat the Araneta Coliseum and the Marikina Sports Complex.
 
And what’s television without a good laugh? Comedians such as Pokwang, John Lapus, Pooh, Kitkat, K Brosas and Chocolate had the crowd in crazy laughter during Kapamilya KTV, with songs and their stand-up comedy performances.
 
Aside from the centerstage, there was also a smorgasbord of apparel and food in the Kapamilya Bazaar and Mercato Centrale. Booths for medical missions and other forms of public service were also around the Quezon City Memorial Circle.
 
With six decades of running entertainment shows and news and public affairs, the countless names of fresh talent that they have developed into award-winning actors and the audience’s response to this monumental event, ABS-CBN has shown that it is truly, and will always be, in the service of the Filipino.
